| Course Overview: | The Graduate Certificate in Music is designed for university graduates in any field who wish to undertake university-level study in music. A student may focus on either practical skills or academic study, or blend the two together. The programs draw together subjects from the Faculty's existing degree programs, and may be taken part-time or full-time. Subjects completed towards the Graduate Certificate in Music may later be credited towards the Graduate Diploma in Music, which may be used as a prerequisite to masters and doctoral degree programs in Music. The Graduate Certificate in Music is one semester (6 months) full-time, or equivalent part-time, and is offered on a fee-paying basis only. |

| Objectives: | Students will gain a general understanding of the key concepts and issues in a music specialisation and develop appropriate technical and critical skills. |
| Subject Options: | Students enrolled in the Musicology/Ethnomusicology Specialisation undertake the following course structure: Subject Study Period Commencement: Credit Points: Plus 3 Academic Electives (37.5 points). Total points for the course = 50 |
| Entry Requirements: | These programs are designed for graduates of disciplines other than music. Applicants are eligible for entry into the Graduate Certificate or Diploma if they: • Hold an undergraduate degree at a pass level, with an average of at least H2B (70%) in the major. Additionally: • Selection into the Practical Music specialisation of either course will be subject to a satisfactory audition. • Selection into the Composition specialisation (GradDip only) will be subject to the satisfactory assessment of a composition folio. • Selection into the Musicology/Ethnomusicology specialisation of either course will be subject to the satisfactory assessment of a piece of scholarly writing. • The Selection Committee may conduct interviews, or call for written work, referee reports, or employer references, to elucidate any of the above. Application Procedure Application forms are available from the Faculty of Music Degree Programs Office, or may be downloaded from the Faculty website. Students are encouraged to provide as much detailed information in support of their application as possible and to discuss their application with a member of the Academic Staff prior to submission. Example of Scholarly Writing Applicants for the Musicology/Ethnomusicology specialisation are also required to submit a piece of scholarly writing. |
