Dr Jeremy Shearmur| Subject Overview: | This course will examine a range of issues in research ethics. It will consider ethical issues relating to the conduct of researchers from research on biomedical issues, through experimentation on animals, to experimentation on human subjects and the ethical characteristics of regimes for regulation of the behaviour of researchers. It will also consider issues relating to the burden of responsibility for the wider social consequences of research, ethical issues posed by relationships between researchers and funding sources, whether government, non-profit or commercial, and also wider issues about the role of researchers as public intellectuals. |
