Subject Overview:

This subject aims to develop modes of enquiry, research skills and processes, and establish a critical dialogue between theory and practice specific to visual media. The lecture program and practical workshops engage students with visual languages in the context of specific imaging problems. Design fundamentals, visual literacy and semiotic analysis provide the fundamental visual understandings required across Visual Media. The subject interrogates the issues involved in contemporary image making. Gallery visits, guest lectures, screenings and excursions are included in the program.

Assessment: A 10-minute oral/visual presentation 20% (due mid-semester) equivalent to 500 words, an essay 20% equivalent to 1000 words and a folio equivalent to 2500 words 60% (due at the end of semester). A hurdle requirement of a minimum of 80% attendance required.Assessment submitted late without an approved formal extension will be penalised at 2% per day. Students who fail to submit up to 2-weeks after the final due date without a formal extension and/or special consideration will receive a fail grade for the piece of assessment.
