Subject Overview:

Topics include Guided Music Imaging; introduction to the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music; psychoanalytic music therapy techniques for individual work; advanced verbal processing for individual work.

On completion of this subject, students should be able to:

  • implement inductions for relaxation and imagery · lead music and collage experiences;

  • demonstrate skill in vocal and improvisational methods (Priestley, ­Austin);

  • analyse the musical material of individual clients; and

  • demonstrate skill in psychoanalytic verbal processing of music therapy experiences with individual clients.
Assessment: Practical test (20%); one 3000 word assignment (80%) due end of semester.
