Dr J OhashiSubject Overview: | In this subject, significant topics in Japanese society will be introduced through authentic texts such as articles from Japanese newspapers, magazines and the Internet. The subject examines current trends and issues in Japanese society from a cross-cultural perspectives. Students are encouraged to use web-based learning tools such as online dictionaries and machine translation in this process. Students will engage in activities such as discussion and essay writing. |

Assessment: | Two in-class composition tasks 20% (due mid-semester and late in semester), two in-class quizzes 16% (due mid-semester and late in semester), two oral tests 24% (due mid-semester and late in semester) and a 2-hour final examination 40% (due during the examination period). |

This subject is available at level one for the super advanced stream of Japanese. It is only available at level two for students who are completing the advanced stream of Japanese and only at level three for students completing the post-VCE stream of Japanese. |
