Subject Overview:

This subject allows students, working individually and in syndicates, to gain experience in commercial and professional aspects of information systems practice. Students will develop business communication skills, including commercial report writing, presentation skills in the context of information systems consulting practice. Aspects addressed will include the analysis for, and the development of, business cases for IT investments. Students will gain experience in both internal and external IS consulting, including ethical considerations in the field of information systems. The subject will enhance students' ability to manage relationships with key stakeholders, communicate effectively about key IS services, and engage effectively with senior decision makers in organisations.

Upon completion of this subject, students should be able to:
• Apply information systems practices and learning to a business problem which involves the use of information systems or information systems practices
• Engage in, plan, execute, manage, and complete a substantial information systems consulting project and document and present a business report representing the findings and recommendations of the project
• Work effectively in a syndicate to collectively achieve practical consulting outcomes
• Describe the consulting and client engagement processes

Assessment:

Written assignments and project work totalling no more than 6000 words due during the semester (60%); a 2-hour written examination in the examination period (40%).
