Subject Overview:

The project will build on the skills and knowledge acquired in Graduate Research Methods, by applying them to investigate a practical clinical problem. Students will select a topic in their area of interest, in consultation with a supervisor, and carry out an independent project which may involve one of the following methods of investigation: literature review, research project, research proposal, clinical audit, outcome study or single case study.

Assessment: Project report of 5,000 words (70%), 15 minute oral presentation (30%). Students must pass both components in order to pass the subject.

  • A capacity to undertake searching of computerised medical literature databases
  • An ability to apply research method and design principles when evaluating published research or in developing a research protocol
