Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Regular meetings or correspondence with supervisor.
Total Time Commitment: Students will be expected to undertake study of 8 to 10 hours per week in this subject. Distance students will be expected to communicate with tutors through an e-mail facility.
Prerequisites: It is desirably but not obligatory for students to have completed Health Program Evaluation 1 and 2 before commencing this Research Project. This is normally the last subject undertaken in the Master of Public Health.

Subject Overview:

The Research Project must be in an area of relevance to health program evaluation, and the topic must be approved by the student's supervisor(s). The research project may be:

  • the development of an evaluation plan or protocol;
  • the analysis of existing data and preparation of a paper of publishable standard; or
  • the planning, implementation and reporting of a small scale evaluation,

and may include qualitative and/or quantitative data collection approaches.
Assessment: A 15 minute work in progress seminar (10%), final 30 minute seminar (20%) and 3,000 word written submission of either a paper for publication or a 8,000-12,000 word evaluation protocol or a 10,000-15,000 word evaluation report (70%). Students must pass the written research report component, and must receive a combined score for the written report and the presentations of at least 50% in order to pass the subject.
