Subject Overview: This subject provides the financial analysis and other methods that managers need, in order to lead organisations, monitor and control operations and allocate resources. It also provides an understanding of specific non-financial measures and metrics associated with long-term sustainability and business success.
Assessment: Assessment : One-hour test (20%), Assignments of not more than 1500 words (30%) and Field project investigation report of 3000 words (50%).

Generic Skills:

Students who successfully complete this subject should:

  • Be able to interpret financial measures and ratios as performance metrics
  • Be able to develop and use a variety of financial measures for managerial control purposes
  • Be familiar with accounting terms and language, and key issues associated with the financial management of organisations
  • Be able to develop and interpret key financial indicators of performance and associate these with a firm's business strategies and operating and orientation
  • Be able to manage financial performance factors within organisations in a variety of sectors of an economy
  • Understand a number of non-financial performance management systems and methods, such as balanced scorecard methods and sustainable development methods and measures.
  • Know the strategic success factors associated with the longer term performance of business organisations
