Subject Overview:

This subject is designed to enable students to engage with Chinese language specialised academic research on humanities topics. Disciplines covered may include linguistics, social sciences, literary studies or culture studies. Students will acquire skills in reading academic Chinese and in oral discussions in Chinese on scholarly topics, as well as academic essay writing abilities and skills of analysis and research based on Chinese language academic materials.

Learning Outcomes:

Acquire written communication skills through essay writing and seminar discussion

Assessment:
  • An essay of 2000 words due mid-semester (50%)
  • An essay of 2000 words due in the examination period (50%)

Hurdle requirement: Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject.

Note: Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.
