Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 1 two-hour rehearsal each week during semester.

Prerequisites:

The minimum level of performance required for this ensemble would be equivalent to AMEB grade 8 or a high grade for VCE solo performance.

Subject Overview:

The String Ensemble is a specialist ensemble for the development of ensemble skills through learning and performing key works from the string repertory.

Learning Outcomes:

On completion of this subject students should be able to:

  • show technical development as ensemble musicians
  • participate with ability and self-confidence as a team member of a performing group
  • perform selected repertoire to concert standard
  • identify and exhibit specific knowledge of a range of ensemble repertoire
  • exhibit an informed respect for the values and principles of ensemble performance.
Assessment:

Regular in-class group assessment of part preparation (30%); end of semester, 10-minute individual part test (60%); active participation in all rehearsals and performances as directed (10%).

Less than 80% attendance will result in a fail.
