A summary list of Applied Skills electives available to students enrolled in the Bachelor of Music and Diploma in Music (Practical).

Applied Skills Electives

Important Notes regarding electives:

  • Singers must take at least one of Language and Diction German, Language and Diction French or Italian Pronunciation for Singers. Enrolment in these subjects for non-voice students is by special permission.
  • Year 1 pianists must take Art of Piano Teaching. Enrolment for all other students is by special permission.
  • Minor Music Performance subjects are available by special permission only.


Applied Skills Electives - Ensemble Electives

An audition is required for:

  • Big Band
  • Early Voices
  • Piano Duo and Duet
  • Symphony Orchestra
  • Vocal Ensemble
  • Wind Symphony
  • Melbourne Chamber Choir 1
  • Melbourne Chamber Choir 2


Special Permission is required for:


During the re-enrolment period, ensemble selections, except Chamber Music, will be processed with provisional approval. Enrolments will then be reviewed by Ensemble Directors, in the context of audition outcomes, before ensemble enrolment can be confirmed. Auditions will be held during February/March. The Melbourne Conservatorium of Music reserves the right to alter ensemble enrolments according to audition/special permission outcomes.
