Subject Overview:

Intrumental/Vocal students:

Participation in ensembles and performances as approved by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and designed in consultation with subject coordinator/s.

Conducting students:

Participation in ensembles and performance, as a conductor, as approved by the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and designed in consultation with the subject co-ordinator.

Objectives:

Intstrumental/Vocal students:

On completion of this subject students should:

  • Have developed the ability to perform sympathetically with other members of the group;
  • Be aware of the importance of individual preparation;
  • Become sensitive to the requirements of working in groups, large and small, particularly with regard to regular and punctual attendance;
  • Have an understanding of the range of repertory available for the ensemble group of which the student is a member.

Conducting students:

On completion of this subject, students should have developed:

  • The ability to conduct sympathetically and lead an ensemble;
  • Skills in the preparation of an ensemble for performance;
  • Skills in working with ensembles, particularly in regard to discilpine, attendance, organisation of rehearsal schedules, concerts, personnel and equipment.
Assessment:

Satisfactory attendance and participation (30%); rehearsal and performance of a program of major work as approved by the co-ordinator/s (70%).
