Subject Overview:

This subject is made up of two components: Aural and Choral Studies. This subject is designed to introduce students to the fundamental principles of aural comprehension and to develop a strong grounding in those principles. The student will examine intervals, harmonic progressions, textures, timbres and basic acoustic principles. There will be a strong emphasis on rhythmic development. Listening and notational activities may involve singing, clapping and the use of the student’s own instruments. The purpose of the Choral Studies program is to develop vocal skills and to enhance musicianship and aural perception through ensemble singing. This will be done through exploring a wide range of standard choral repertoire.
