Subject Overview:

This subject is designed to provide students with a basic understanding of the current philosophies, structure, levels of support and the methodology required to educate students with special needs in the regular classroom. An overview will be provided of the learning needs of gifted children and children with hearing impairment, language impairment, visual impairment, intellectual disability, learning disabilities, physical disabilities and socioemotional disabilities. Particular emphasis will be placed on the strategies used to evaluate and, where necessary, to modify instructional methods and curricula for these students. The design and implementation of individual learning and behaviour management programs will be examined.
