Subject Overview: This subject enables students to develop in consultation with their supervisors a research proposal specific to their thesis topic. This will include methodology and ethics approval preparation. Students are expected to participate in an ethics peer review and defend their own ethics application at a mock Human Ethics Advisory Group meeting.
Objectives:

On completion of this subject students will be able to demonstrate:

  • The ability to select a thesis topic in consultation with a research supervisor
  • An ability to apply research method and design principles in developing a research protocol
  • Present a research proposal and ethics application to a forum consisting of members of the academic staff and peers.
Assessment:

Research proposal - 4,000 words limit (70%), Ethics application and review (30%).
