Subject Overview: This subject aims to enable students to acquire advanced clinical skills in a specialist area of physiotherapy. Students are mentored to optimize their clinical decison making, diagnostic skills, assessment and measurement procedures and treatment effectiveness in a targeted area of practice. During this subject, students also revise and update their knowledge and theory pertaining to the specialist area of practice. This subject is specifically designed to be taken in parallel with the Australian College of Physiotherapy specialisation examination.
Objectives:

On completion of this subject, students will have:

  • An advanced knowledge in a specialist area of physiotherapy
  • Advanced clinical skills in a specialist area of physiotherapy
  • An understanding of the roles and attributes of a specialist physiotherapist
  • An ability to recognise and articulate advanced knowledge and practical skills in physiotherapy
Assessment:

One 1 hour viva on theory due (30%)

One 1 hour clinical examination conducted in a clinical setting at the end of semester (40%)

A written assignment (up to 3,000 words) or an oral presentation (20 minutes) that provides an overview and critique of the key learning issues in advanced clinical practice (30%)
