Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 36 hours of seminars (intensive) Classes: Thursday 24 February – all day; Friday 25 February - all day; Thursdays 3, 10, 17, 24 March - 3 hour seminars; Saturday 26 March - all day. The exam will take place no later than 20 April 2011
Total Time Commitment: 144 hours per semester, including self directed study/research.

MGMT40003 Advanced Management Theory, MGMT40004 Management Research Essay.

Subject Overview:

This subject will provide students with the theoretical knowledge and practical 'know-how' that will enable them to undertake an advanced management research project (325-408 Management Research Essay). Subject matter will include: the nature of the management research process; an introduction to the epistemology of management research; how to produce a literature review; how to design a research project; and, how to undertake quantitative and qualitative management research.

Objectives: On completion of this subject, you should be able to:
• Explain the research process, including the philosophical underpinnings of management research, the literature review, the research question and research design;
• Analyse and evaluate research undertaken within different methodological traditions
Assessment:

A 3-hour examination (60%) and assignment(s) totalling not more than 4000 words (40%).

Notes:

This subject will be taught in intensive mode: two or three full days of seminars in the week before semester one begins, one three-hour seminar each week for the next five weeks of semester, and possibly another full day seminar in the fourth week of semester.
