Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of language classes per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 4 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.
Prerequisites: CHIN20014 Chinese 4A or equivalent.

Subject Overview:

This subject is a continuation of Chinese 4A. At the conclusion of this subject, students should be able to independently read a variety of original Chinese material and to write modern standard Chinese in an acceptable style. They should also be able to conduct discussions in Chinese on social and cultural issues.

Objectives:
  • be able to read a variety of original Chinese material.
  • be able to write modern standard Chinese in an acceptable style.
  • be able to understand cultural context.
  • be able to discuss social and cultural issues in standard Chinese.
Assessment:

Class participation 10%, a mid-semester test 10%, an oral presentation 20% (at the end of semester), and a final 2-hour examination 60% (during examination period).

Class attendance is required for this subject; if you do not attend a minimum of 80% of classes without an approved exemption you will not be eligible for a pass in this subject. Assessment submitted late without an approved extension will be penalised at 10% per day. In-class tasks missed without approval will not be marked. All pieces of written work must be submitted to pass this subject.

It is only available at level 1 for students who commenced the background speakers stream of Chinese at level one This subject was previously offered as 110-040 and 110-123 Standard Chinese 2B. Students who have completed Standard Chinese 2B are not eligible to enrol in this subject.
