Structure & Available Subjects:

A major in political science usually consist of eight 12.5-point subjects, totalling 100 points. It comprises:

  • one level one subject in political science (12.5 points); and
  • seven level 2/3 subjects in political science (87.5 points).

Political Science includes the study of government, political institutions and movements, and power. It addresses a broad range of phenomenon from the construction of political identity to how local, national and international communities deal with competing values, ideologies and interests. Political Science offers a wide range of subjects in areas such as Australian and global politics, public policy, political theory and political economy. Students can also study specific issues such as gender politics, the environment, and political communication. It offers a range of popular internship schemes in the Victorian Parliament and in government, community and private sector organisations.

Students who commenced their degree before 2007 will need to complete 112.5 points toward this major in order to complete the major.
