Time Commitment: Contact Hours: A 1 hour lecture and 3 hours of tutorials per week

Subject Overview:

This subject provides students with an opportunity to read and listen to various types of authentic Japanese materials with some modification and learn to communicate on a wide range of topics. Students will learn100 kanji (Chinese characters) and will be introduced to various aspects of Japanese culture. Computer laboratory instruction will support the curriculum.

Objectives:
  • consolidate and expand competence in Japanese, introducing different styles of expressions.
  • learn various styles of speech and genres of written texts including informal speech between friends and academic writing style writing.
Assessment: Three in-class tests, 20% (due throughout the semester), a written assignment 1000 words 20% (due mid-semester), 2-hour final examination 50%(examination period) and class participation 10%.

  • Nihongo Chukyu J301-Kiso kara Chukyu (Satoshi Toki, Masaaki Seki, Fumiya Hirataka, Koko Shin"uchi and Yoshiko Tsuruo) Three A Network, 2001

  • particular attention is given to developing reading skills.
Notes: This subject is available at level one for students who are completing the advanced stream of Japanese. It is only available at level two for students completing the post-VCE stream of Japanese, and level three for beginners stream Japanese student.
