Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of language seminars per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week, 4 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.
Prerequisites: German Intermediate Language & Culture A or equivalent. This subject is only available at first year level for students commencing the intermediate language stream.

Subject Overview:

This subject uses authentic written and audio-visual texts to expand students' ability to understand, speak and write German. If proceeding to German at second-year level, students should achieve the level of competency required for admittance into German Cultural Studies 2 and German Language and Culture 2A.

Objectives:
  • acquire and expand language skills through intensive language training.
  • increase their vocabulary to a moderate level of complexity in the speaking, aural understanding, reading and writing of German.
Assessment: A 2-hour examination 40% (during examinations period), two listening tests equivalent to 500 words 10% (mid and end of semester), written work equivalent to 1000 words 30% (during semester), a 5-minute oral presentation equivalent to 250 words 10% (during semester) and vocabulary tests equivalent to 250 words 10% (during semester).
