Course Overview:

The Certificate will be made up of two 12.5 point subjects. Candidates who successfully complete the award will gain a critical understanding of processes of social exclusion and inclusion, the concepts of social justice and injustice, and the ways these issues intersect with practical social policy and research issues in Australia and internationally.

The Specialist Certificate in Social Policy (Social Inclusion) is a direct response to an understanding in the School of Social and Political Science that there is a market for this content in government and the not- for-profit sector. MCCP agreed to assist in the development of this course and further test this assumption, and has been encouraged by the response. A number of different government agencies and community organisations have provided formal expressions of interest in committing staff to such a program. The program is also specifically supported by senior staff at the Brotherhood of St Laurence as an industry requirement.

Objectives: Candidates who successfully complete the course will gain the following outcomes:
• An understanding of key theoretical, conceptual and analytical frameworks for engaging with social inclusion and exclusion;
• The capacity to apply such frameworks in professional practice contexts;
