Prerequisites: Students must have completed two semesters of study of Chinese at the University of Melbourne in order to obtain credit for this subject. Chinese 2B (formerly Introductory Chinese 2B) or Chinese 2F (formerly Chinese 1B) is the minimum level required.

Subject Overview:

This subject is intended to provide an in-country study experience for those students who are unable to study overseas for the longer period of time required by the University"s exchange programme. Students will experience Chinese culture and society at first hand while intensively practising their language skills.

Objectives:
  • have an increased ability to function in an intercultural context.

  • have greater knowledge of intercultural communication practices.

Assessment:

A 2-hour written examination 50%. 45-minute listening comprehension test 20% and a 10-minute oral test 30% (all due in the final week). Students are required to have a minimum of 90% class attendance and achieve a pass in all tests set by the host university.
