Subject Overview:

The field placements are designed to complement the other coursework units. The placement takes place in a clinical neuroscience setting. All principal field supervisors are members (or eligible for membership) of the Board of Clinical Neuropsychologists of the Australian Psychological Society.

The placement comprising 30 days, will introduce students to professional psychological services in a neuropsychological setting, which might include acute adult and paediatric neurological and neurosurgical, psychiatric, and rehabilitation services. Students will attend activities such as group supervision sessions (neuropsychological case discussions), ward rounds, and attendance at interdisciplinary clinical meetings (for example, neuroimaging, neuropathology, epilepsy program, memory clinic, neurobehaviour clinic).

Objectives: Students will be given the opportunity to develop some familiarity with neuropsychological testing and the interaction between neuropsychological and neurological/neuropsychiatric diagnosis and management.
Assessment:

University and field supervisors will conjointly determine whether the student has passed the placements. Both supervisors and the student will formally meet at the end of the placement to determine progress and outcome.

If it becomes apparent during placement that the student's performance is inadequate in some respect, then the supervisors will attempt to rectify deficiencies by requiring the student to undergo further placement. Master of Psychology students will be required to submit a casebook as a hurdle requirement for passing this unit.
