Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 24 hours of face-to-face contact over an eight-week semester plus at least eight hours of pre-seminar reading

Subject Overview:

This subject is designed to provide students with a grounding in the following areas:
• Identifying Risk Areas;
• Identifying Assets;
• Assessing business impact of analysis;
• Prioritising actions;
• Exception detection;
• Email analysis;
• Database analysis;
• Transaction analysis;
• Keyword searching;
• Database querying;
• Recovering data from a live system;
• Forensic storage and recovery; and
• Producing a technically correct forensic report.

Objectives: On completion of this subject students should have an understanding of
• The analysis of electronic business data;
• Factors to consider when investigating electronic incidents in a business environment;
• How to manage a complex electronic environment when conducting a forensic analysis; and
• Recent advances in forensic analysis techniques and technologies.
Assessment:
Two written assignments and a practical exam totalling 6000 words.
