| Subject Overview: | This subject will provide an overview of horticultural principles in three key areas: 1. Plant structure and function Plant cells and tissues, photosynthesis, respiration, energy transformations, sexual and asexual reproduction 2. Soils and nutrition Soil composition and properties, soil texture and structure, soil water relationships, plant nutrition and soil management 3. Horticulture and sustainability Plant production and quality, environmental and ecological considerations in plant growth, planting and establishment techniques, water and water management issues, garden maintenance practices |

| Objectives: |
On completion of this subject, student should: • Describe the structure of plant cells and tissues |
| Assessment: | Two practical reports each equivalent to 1500 words 30 % each (due early and mid-semester respectively) and one two hour final examination 40% (due end of semester). |
