Subject Overview: Original research on an approved research project selected in consultation with the supervisor. The research project will be in the field of arts management as applied to a single art form or cross-art form projects such as festivals, multimedia projects or international exchange in the arts. A minimum of 50% of the student's research project must involve theoretical study. The theoretical study will provide a framework for any practical research undertaken. The Research Project will culminate in the presentation of a thesis.
Objectives:
  • be able to demonstrate awareness of complex organisational systems pertaining to a specific arts organisation;
  • be able to demonstrate awareness of external issues impacting upon the sustainability of arts organisations;
  • be able to demonstrate ability to analyse workplace practices in the effective management of staff;
  • be able to demonstrate ability to recognize day to day workplace procedures, and strategic planning for the longer term.
Assessment: A project presentation totalling 10 000 words 100% (due at the end of the second semester of enrolment).
