Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 30 hours of lectures, tutorials and computer-based modules throughout third year
Total Time Commitment: Students will need to allow time for self-directed learning. The following hours are given as minimum requirements: 1 hour pre/post reading for lectures, 2 hours per hour of tutorial sessions and 2 hours extra per week for practical classes. Third year students will need to spend approximately 2 hours per day in study and at least 2 extra hours per week practising clinical skills.
Prerequisites: This subject is not available as a single subject. Students must be currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Physiotherapy to undertake this subject.

Subject Overview:

This subject introduces the discipline of evidence-based physiotherapy practice. The course content covers quantitative research methodology, research design, evaluation of evidence for physiotherapy practice and introduces the use of clinical guidelines.
Objectives:
  • Understanding of the framewprk and practice of evidence-based practice
  • Ability to identify different quantitative research methodologies
  • Skills in searching for and elavuating research evidence
  • Completion of a systematic review protocol, which will be used to undertake a systematic review in EBPP 2 (513-413) in Year 4
Assessment:

Critical appraisal written examination of one hour, conducted in May (60%), systematic review protocol group assignment of 2000 words, due in October (40%).
