Subject Overview: A study of key directions and innovations in language and literacy policy and programming in Australia and internationally. Topics include: the evolution of language and literacy teaching programs in different contexts; current issues in language education policy and planning; the interface between first and second language education; and the process involved in initiating and managing change in language and literacy education at a variety of levels, including professional development and institutional reform.
Assessment: A 2,000-word written paper comparing and critically evaluating different interpretations of the origins and development of a particular initiative in language and/or literacy policy or programming (30 per cent); and an in-depth investigation of the impact of a current innovation or change in language education on a particular aspect of a program, including recommendations for change, totaling 6,000 words (70 per cent).
