Subject Overview:

This subject will provide students with an understanding of how to manage urban green space. Students will study policy, planning and process issues, community consultation, structures, systems and contractual relationships, landscape documentation, project planning and implementation, life-cycle analysis of landscape elements, urban vegetation planning, implementation and maintenance, sustainability concepts and examples.

At the conclusion of the subject students should be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key management issues in urban green space; discuss life-cycle issues of such green spaces; analyse and interpret policy and planning matters; describe planning, implementation and maintenance approaches for urban vegetation; interpret documentation used in urban landscape management; define consultative models, management structures and systems used in urban green space and discuss the role of project management in green space.

Assessment: A 120 minute final examination 50% (end of semester) and two written reports equivalent to 4000 words in total each worth 25% (due during semester).
Prescribed Texts: A reading pack will be prepared for use in the subject.
