Time Commitment: Contact Hours: Four hours of language classes per week
Total Time Commitment: 4 contact hours/week , 4 additional hours/week. Total of 8 hours per week.

Subject Overview: This subject continues development of the ability to speak, read, write and understand Indonesian begun in Indonesian Level 1A. Students should achieve a basic communicative competence in Indonesian; develop a sound basis in grammar and vocabulary for further Indonesian language study; and further their understanding of Indonesian culture.
Objectives:
  • have achieved basic communicative competence in Indonesian with an emphasis on aural/oral competence;
  • have developed a sound basis for further Indonesian language study;
  • have developed 'Asia-literacy' and an empathy with Indonesian people and culture;
  • acquire skills to put theoretical knowledge to active use;
  • acquire skills to communicate actively in an unfamiliar environment using restricted resources;
  • be able to interact practically in a social and cultural environment different from one's own.
Assessment: Written work and class tests totalling 1500 words 60% (throughout the semester), a 2-hour written examination 30% and a short oral examination 10% (due during the examination period). Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all classes in order to be eligible to take the examination.
