Overview: Spanish

Three separate streams are offered in Spanish:

Beginners: for students who have very little or no knowledge of Spanish.
Intermediate: for students who have undertaken four or five years of secondary school Spanish.
Advanced/Post-VCE: for students who have obtained a pass in VCE Spanish, or its equivalent.

Students completing a major will usually complete 25 points at level one, 37.5 points at level two and 37.5 points at level three. Students completing a minor will usually complete 25 points at level one, 25 points at level two, and 25 points at level three.

Beginners Spanish Stream: Level 1 Subjects

The following subjects are compulsory for students undertaking a major or a minor in beginners Spanish stream

Beginners Spanish Stream: Level 2

The following subjects are compulsory for students completing a major in beginners Spanish stream. Students completing a minor must complete Spanish Intermediate Language/Culture A and Spanish Intermediate Language/Culture B (25 points). Hispanic Cultural Studies is not compulsory for students completing a minor.

The following subjects are compulsory for students completing a major and a minor in beginners Spanish stream. Students completing a major must also undertake one elective at level three (see below). Students completing a minor are not required to take electives.

The following three subjects are compulsory for students completing a major in intermediate Spanish stream.
Students completing a minor must complete LaTrobe-Spanish Language & Culture 2A and LaTrobe-Spanish Language & Culture 2B (25 points). Hispanic Cultural Studies 1 is not compulsory for students completing a minor.
