Time Commitment: Contact Hours: 21 hours of tutorials and 30 hours of clinical placement during the semester.
Total Time Commitment: Students are expected to undertake a number of hours of self directed learning in this subject. Approximately 50 hours of self directed learning is suggested.

Subject Overview:

This subject will develop clinical skills in the management of paediatric conditions and focuses on overall patient management rather than 'hands-on' physiotherapy treatment. Students have two weeks clinical placement that includes two days attending clinics at the Royal Children's Hospital. Students prepare a case study for presentation at the end of the course.

Assessment: Written assignment 2,000 words due mid-semester (40%), case presentation due end of semester (20%), clinical practice journal due end of semester (20%).

  • An understanding of patient management in the context of the childs developmental stage and the family.
  • The knowledge and ability to perform paediatric physiotherapy competencies standards at a high level accepted by the profession.
  • A well-developed problem solving ability in paediatric physiotherapy clinical practice, characterised by a flexible approach.
