Subject Overview: This subject will offer content and skills germane to the formulating and understanding of statistics-based reporting of student outcomes in school contexts. The subject content will be relevant to the needs of teaching and management staff in schools from P-12. Concepts of criterion- and norm-referenced interpretation and their implications for use of results at both individual and aggregated levels will be examined. Students will be introduced to how to identify relationships between sets of data and how the data can be used to link to curriculum and instructional strategies. The appropriateness of different levels of information for different audiences will be analysed.
Assessment: Exercises and reports equivalent to 4,000 words in total (100 per cent).

  • understand the nature of individual and group differences across achievement.
  • Use data as evidence based approach to planning and evaluating instruction and curriculum.
