Subject Overview:

The subject introduces the theory and application of both abstract and realistic visualisation options in two, three and four dimensions. Specific topics include colour theory, communication theory; cartography; map animation; hypermapping, environmental visualisation, and augmented reality. Also included are technical aspects of computer graphics including image manipulation, three-dimensional modelling and transformations, perspective, hidden surface algorithms, illumination models, texture mapping, ray tracing and animation. Applications of scientific and environmental visualisation for planning and management in built and natural environments are reviewed.

Assessment: One 3-hour written examination at the end of semester (50%) Approximately 5 assignments, 2 weeks apart 600 words each. (50%).

Breadth Options: This subject is a level 2 or level 3 subject and is not available to new generation degree students as a breadth option in 2008.
This subject or an equivalent will be available as breadth in the future.
