Course Overview: The postgraduate certificate provides an opportunity for honours-level study in philosophy for students who do not want to undertake the full load of the postgraduate diploma.

Objectives: Students who complete the postgraduate certificate should:
  • acquire an extended background knowledge of philosophy;.
  • acquire sophisticated skills in philosophising;
  • advance significantly towards acquiring qualifications for admission to Master's level work in philosophy

History and philosophy of science*

* A maximum of two history and philosophy of science subjects may be taken as electives, subject to approval of the philosophy course coordinator. Other subjects may be considered in consultation with the course coordinator.
Entry Requirements:

The minimum entry requirement is:

  • an undergraduate degree with a major in philosophy or cognate discipline and a grade average equivalent to an H2A (75%) at the University of Melbourne in the major
or
  • a Graduate Diploma in Arts (Philosophy) with a grade average equivalent to an H2A (75%) at the University of Melbourne.
