Subject Overview:

At the end of the sequence Veterinary Biochemistry A and Veterinary Biochemistry B, students completing these subjects should: be familiar with the terminology of biochemistry; comprehend the principles and essential information regarding chemical structures and properties of cellular constituents and the correlation of structure with function; comprehend the interrelationships of metabolic pathways and biochemical reactions between tissue systems; have developed skills in organising, analysing and evaluating biochemical data.

Topics include: amino acid, peptide and protein chemistry; enzymology, allostery and oxygen transport; biochemistry of nucleic acids, protein synthesis and post-synthetic modification.

Assessment: A 2-hour written examination at the end of semester (80%). One 1-hour test will be held during the semester (20%) and indicated in the teaching timetable available at the commencement of the semester.
